The offer
What your force gets.
Free train the trainer
SRB train the trainer courses are free of charge for police Officer Safety Trainers, and can be arranged at your force’s own venue.
One for one exchange
Return any Emergency Response Belts and receive one free, updated Soft Restraint Belt.
50% off further SRBs
Forces taking part in the exchange receive half price on the SRBs they purchase.
Why we are doing this
Supporting cultural change in restraint.
The Thomas Orchard inquest found that the use and manner of use of the Emergency Response Belt when Thomas was carried was not necessary and reasonable, and that it possibly contributed to his death.
Safer Handling was not involved in developing the ERB. Because of our role in developing and implementing the SRB across the NHS, and our work with the Ministry of Justice, we want to support forces with the cultural change that follows.
The Soft Restraint Belt
Handles on the body, not around it.
- Upper and lower torso control
- Helps move a person out of the prone position as soon as possible
- Compliant with the Manual Handling Regulations
- Does not restrict breathing
- Works with Soft-cuffs, a humane alternative to metal handcuffs
The course
SRB train the trainer for officer safety trainers
A one day course covering the Soft Restraint Belt, Soft-cuffs and how they work together, transitions from rigid cuffs to soft restraints, and the SEELS lifting sling. The theory can be completed online beforehand.
